For decades the default aerosol touch-up in Indian workshops was NC, nitrocellulose lacquer. It dried fast, it was cheap, and it was what everyone had. It also faded, yellowed, softened in the sun and lost gloss within a season, and every maintenance team simply accepted that a touch-up was a temporary fix.
It does not have to be. Acrylic base spray paint replaced NC as the sensible default for industrial touch-up, and the difference shows up in exactly the places NC used to fail.

The flexibility point is the one that decides most real failures. Metal moves. It expands in the sun, contracts at night, and flexes under load and vibration. A brittle film cracks at those stresses and the crack becomes the corrosion entry point. A flexible film absorbs the movement and stays intact.
Why Acrylic Base Spray Paint Suits Touch-Up Specifically
Plenty of coatings outperform acrylic on a single axis. Very few match it across the particular combination that touch-up work demands.
- It dries fast enough to be practical. A repair that cannot be handled inside a shift will not be done during a shift.
- It is single component. No mixing ratio to get wrong, no pot life to race, which matters when the person spraying is a line operator rather than a painter.
- It adheres across substrates. Metal and most previously painted surfaces, including many plastics, take it with appropriate preparation.
- It colour matches predictably. Consistent viscosity and film build mean the sprayed shade behaves like the approved sample.
- It accepts a clear coat where extra weather or chemical protection is needed.
That last point is worth planning for. Acrylic base plus an anti corrosive clear lacquer reproduces the base-plus-protection structure of a factory finish, which is why the repair then ages at a similar rate to the panel around it.
Where It Is Used
Acrylic base is the general-purpose workhorse of the range: metal components and assemblies, previously painted surfaces being repaired, machinery and enclosures, fabricated steel, and plastic parts where the substrate has been prepared correctly. If a defect is cosmetic or lightly protective and the environment is not extreme, this is usually the correct starting specification.
Where it is not the answer: continuous high temperature (use a heat resistant formulation), fuel and solvent contact (use 2K polyurethane), and damaged galvanizing, where sacrificial zinc protection is the requirement rather than a barrier film.
Application Notes
- Clean, degrease, abrade, feather, mask. The same discipline as any touch-up. Most acrylic failures are preparation failures.
- Prime bare metal. Acrylic over bare steel without a primer gives up much of its corrosion advantage.
- Shake for the full time stated. Pigment settles; under-agitation shifts both shade and gloss.
- Build in thin passes. Two light coats consistently outperform one heavy coat, which sags and cures soft.
- Allow proper cure before handling, and longer again before stacking or packing.
Color-on Acrylic Base
Color-on acrylic base is formulated to supersede NC-based products on quality, colour, permanence, viscosity and drying time. It forms an even, flexible film of 15 to 20 microns, provides corrosion resistance, and is rated for UV life up to 300 hours. It is supplied in 300 g (approximately 440 ml) and 120 g (approximately 180 ml) aerosols, and is intended for all metal surfaces as well as other painted surfaces including plastics where touch-up is required.
Every can is colour matched to your submitted shade rather than to a standard card, which is the part that decides whether a repair disappears or announces itself.
